Caracciola-Karussell

Spectator pointalso known as the Karussell50.3719 N / 6.9854 E

About

The Karussell is the Nordschleife's signature: a steeply banked loop of rough concrete that cars drop into and ride around like a wall of death in slow motion. It is named after Rudolf Caracciola, the pre-war Mercedes great, who made the technique of hooking a wheel into the banked drainage ditch famous.

Spectators get remarkably close here, and because the corner is slow, you see and hear everything — the bump-thump of the concrete slabs included. If you photograph one corner at the Ring, it is this one.
